"One Week Can Change the World"
Swamp Corps Application Steps

Which Position?

If you are asking yourself, "How do I know which position to apply for?", then use the following guidelines to help:

  • Camper: open to 14-18 year olds who are traveling alone, if traveling with parents can be 9-18.
  • Counselor: open to 17-30 year olds, who have been a Christian for at least six (6) months and want to spend 24 hours giving to campers; can be single, married or college student
  • Volunteer: open to anyone 18+ who wants to assist in the running of the camp (i.e. setup, serving, medical staff)

Application Steps:

  • STEP 1: Determine Eligibility
    U.S. Participant:
    • Be 14 years of age at the time of travel; unless child is traveling with parents--then just need to be camp age, which is 9-18.
    • Campers & Counselors Only: Attended Camp Swamp for at least four (4) weeks in your lifetime OR attending the Counselor Training Weekend at Camp Swamp (Other volunteers do not have to have Swamp Camp experience)
    •           Notable Exceptions
        • This can be waived depending on the needs of the trip. For example, Triangle applicants for Kenya are currently waived from this requirement based on the 5th bullet point in this list.
        • Once enough applicants who know the Camp Swamp culture have applied and been accepted, the remaining spots can be filled with those who have not met these requirements. This is especially true in Year 1 of training during which it is critical to pass on the camp culture.
    • Mature enough to work on a team in an extreme selfless, giving environment
    • Other factors will be determined on a case-by-case scenario (i.e. skills: counseling, nursing, life guard, special experiences, etc.)
    • Priority is given to those participants who are from a location that in anyway supports the destination location so that relationships and sustainability are fostered and maintained between the two locations.
    • All approvals are at the final discretion of the Executive Director and Camp Program Director based on what is needed in order to most effectively meet Swamp Corps' Mission for the host community.
    • All counselors must pass a Background Check and submit a Letter of Recommendation from their ministry leader if not already on file for the current year. Click here to access online recommendation form.
