Mother-Daughter Pre-Arrival Info 2025

We are so excited to welcome you to the 2025 Mother Daughter retreat at Camp Swamp! We
have a fun and relaxing girls weekend planned for all our grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and
daughters. We are exploring the theme “GIVE HER GRACE” with opportunities to play, eat, and
create community. We will have planned activities and lessons focused on showing grace to
each other, especially within our families, so come ready to play and learn.
Our guest speakers will be the mother and daughter duo, Robynn and Sydni Brown.

GOOD TO KNOW – First things first, here’s some important things that would be good to know.
–DO NOT COME IF YOU OR CHILD HAS HAD A FEVER OR VOMITING WITHIN 72 HOURS PRIOR TO
CHECK-IN
-Medical personnel will be present on site on Saturday and Sunday but all medications will stay
with and be administered by moms.
–Dinner is NOT served on Friday night, so plan for you and your daughter.
-If you will arrive late on Friday, August 22nd, please call 706-351-3092; gate closes at 10 pm.
-Retreat ends at 11 am on Sunday August 24th .
-Breakfast is the last meal at camp on Sunday.
-Dinner/lunch ideas near camp: Chick-fil-A, Zaxby’s, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King, Waffle
House, Dairy Queen, Subway, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Taco Bell, Long Horn Steakhouse, and
Holcombs BBQ are all right off the I-20 exit 130 (Lake Oconee Parkway)
Arriving for our weekend:
Our address for Professor Google and Siri is 1400 Maxeys Road, Union Point, Georgia. We have
check-in starting at 6 pm Friday evening. Come first to the Dining Hall when you arrive, and we
will give you instructions from there. You do not need to bring all your things inside the dining
hall when you check in.
We will not be sharing a meal together that night, so plan to eat before you arrive. We will have
snacks and drinks available for purchase Friday evening. As Steve always says, this is a soft
landing on Friday night. We know the chaos that comes with leaving on a Friday for weekend
plans, and we want you to view Friday evening as a time to come and exhale and relax. We will
enjoy the pool and games. If you do not arrive until late Friday or even Saturday morning, you
are not behind and will not be left out (please reassure whoever is the most anxious at your
house). If you are arriving after 10 pm on Friday, please let us know so that we can keep the
gate open.
Setting expectations:
We encourage you to have a conversation about your expectations for this weekend. We often
have unsaid expectations for special times like this and we expect others to read our minds or
to have the same desires as us. We all know what it is like to feel disappointed or frustrated
when our expectations are not met. Set yourself up to win and learn about your daughter by
asking some of these questions before you arrive: What are some ways we could play together
this week? What helps you feel close to me? How can I encourage you/make you feel special
this weekend?
Handling our phones this weekend:
We have good news and bad news: Swamp has terrible cellphone coverage. Our request is for
our weekend to be cellphone free, to help all of us enjoy being present together. We will have a
photographer available throughout our weekend plans, so there will be opportunities to have
pictures with you and your girl. As the adults, let us model a healthy relationship with
technology for the young women around us. If you are looking for an excuse to take a break
from your phone, this is a great weekend for a phones-free experience.
Packing for our weekend:
Our sleeping arrangements this weekend will be the Girls’ Cabins. The cabins are air-
conditioned, but you may want to bring a box fan for the white noise some of us need when
sharing a space with other people. Bring a twin sheet set, blanket/quilt and pillow, or a sleeping
bag and pillow. There are no bathrooms in the cabins, so plan on a short walk to our Girls’
Bathhouse.
For those of you who are new to Camp Swamp, this is the place to be yourself – no need to fuss
with makeup, cute clothes, or styled hair. Be prepared to walk (up and down girls hill), play, and
dance, so wear comfortable shoes and outfits that you can move around in. For us all to stay
cool this weekend, pack your swimsuit, pool towels, and sunscreen for a refreshing time in the
pool.

Note: the packing list is for our weeklong summer camp. Use this as a guide and pack accordingly.
Playing for our weekend:
Besides our scheduled pool times and the activities, there are lots of ways for you and your
daughter to play together this weekend. We will have art supplies, jigsaw puzzles, board games,
card games, table tennis, hula hoops, corn hole, four square, nine square, basketball hoops, and
frisbees. Plus, we will have a time for Just Dance, one of our camp traditions, so come prepared
to groove! We are preparing a special girls’ weekend soundtrack, full of songs to sing together
in the dining hall and at the pool.
Eating for our weekend:
Scott has been working on our menu for our girls’ weekend and it looks delicious. For those
who like to eat on the healthier side, there will be plenty of fruits and veggies included in our
meals. We are planning some options for our older girls (that includes the moms), while being
mindful of the tastebuds of our younger girls. We will have our Snack Shack open at various
times, Friday night and Saturday, for drinks and snacks. Plan on bringing cash for the Snack
Shack goodies.
Praying for our weekend:
We are here to connect with our daughters, other mothers, nature, and God. Join us in praying
for our time together, that you and your daughter will make sweet memories, have great talks,
and laugh a lot. Join us in praying for your time with the other mothers, that you will make
connections with peers, that you will find a kindred spirit, and that your heart as a mother will
be refreshed. Join us in praying for safety for our weekend, with the hot temperatures
projected and lots of driving to and from camp.
If you need to reach anyone the day of the retreat, please contact Steve Gibson at 706-351-
3092.
